چکیده

Background: Thyroid gland is a highly vascular organ. So, doing thyroidectomy requires good hemostasis even for the small blood vessels either through conventional tie technique which time-consuming or use of harmonic scalpel. Objective: To evaluate real benefits Harmonic Scalpel in total thyroidectomies when compared with ligation, terms operative time, postoperative drainage, and complications. Patients methods: This randomized, prospective observational study was carried out at Al-Zahraa University Hospital, Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt.  Written informed consents were obtained from Seventy-six patients benign goiter disorders who scheduled elective during period August 2019 to October 2020. Thirty eight submitted (group A), thirty underwent using scalpel B). Results: There no statistical difference between two groups as regards demographic data, hospital stay, recurrent laryngeal nerve injury, hypocalcemia, but there statistically significant time (76.9±15.1 min group A versus 89.23±17.68 B) drainage volume (111.75±56.57 mls 89 ± 16.21 Conclusion: better choice volume.

PURPOSE THE AIM OF THIS STUDY WAS TO COMPARE THE SURGICAL COMPLETENESS AND OUTCOME OF TOTAL THYROIDECTOMY IN TWO PATIENT GROUPS: One treated by harmonic scalpel (HS) and one by conventional total thyroidectomy (CT). METHODS Between March 2006 and December 2007, 104 patients had total thyroidectomy by HS and 108 patients underwent CT. We analyzed clinicopathological characteristics and stimula...
